I provide high quality psychological assessment and talking therapy to adults (aged 21+) suffering from depression, anxiety and trauma (including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) as well as a range of other problems.
Within my therapy sessions, I offer a confidential space to explore your difficulties & make sense of them so that you can get better and stay better for longer, learn new skills and begin to make changes in the areas that are important to you.
I have two dedicated consulting rooms in Hertford for face to face therapy appointments. We also offer online therapy sessions across the UK. Contact me to book an appointment.
I work privately as a HCPC Clinical Psychologist and EMDR therapist, offering therapy in Hertford, and online.
I am registered with the Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC) and have over 16 years’ experience working in the National Health Service (NHS). I have also pursued further training in internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy and EMDR (including attachment focused EMDR).
I use evidence based therapies in a bespoke and collaborative way in order to achieve the best possible outcome for you. These include Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR therapy), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT),
Deciding to get help can feel daunting. With this in mind, I offer an optional 15 minute online video consultation so that we can explore whether an assessment would be helpful. There is no obligation to book a follow-up appointment after this consultation.
During your therapy assessment in Hertford, we will explore your difficulties in more depth, set some goals, and determine which therapy approach is most likely to help you.
On the rare occasion where I feel I am not the right therapist for you, I will signpost you to someone who may be a better fit for your needs.
My approach to counselling in Hertford is always bespoke and collaborative, with 50 minute sessions occurring on a weekly basis where possible.
The duration of therapy will depend on you and your specific goals, but typically ranges from 6 – 40 sessions.
I use a range of therapeutic approaches guided by the evidence base and tend to use them integratively (combining elements from more than one model) because we are all different and there is no “one size fits all”. The approach I take will be personalised to you and what you want to get out of your sessions with me.
My main therapeutic approaches are Eye Movement Desensitation and Reprocessing (EMDR Therapy), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
“Thank you so much for all your help in enabling me to break free from trauma and everything that’s happened to me. Our sessions have been a rock to anchor myself through the turmoil. And ridding someone of nightmares is not a bad day’s work!
Thank you again”
"Going through talking therapy ultimately leading to several sessions of EMDR was a game changer for me. I feel a lot better about myself and am now confident that I have worked on and built useful techniques to remedy (and workaround where needed) the suboptimal parts of my mind that plagued me all throughout my past life. Dr Tucknott is a specialist in this area and has been great help to me"
"I was in a really bad place when we first met and having a weekly space to talk was so valuable. I feel more in control now and have the tools I need to maintain my equilibrium and live life again.
I'm really grateful to have seen Maria - thank you"
